Muong men usually dress in indigo pajamas, but they also quite often wear
clothing typical of the lowland Vietnamese. Women retain their traditional
costume. They typically wear a white rectangular scarf tied at the base of the
neck, bra, a short vest open at the front (or at the shoulders) with no
buttons, and a long skirt. The skirt is decorated by a large silk belt
embroidered with geometric designs, flowers, figures, dragons, phoenixes, deer
or birds. The belt is often quite wide, worn so as to cover the area from the
waist to the middle of the chest. Silver jewelry is often worn in the form of
simple, yet elegant bracelets and necklaces.
