The Pubiao are often considered to be one of the earliest tribal groups to migrate from China.  They have lived in the far northern part of Vietnam for centuries.  The Pubiao call themselves Ka Biao. The government of Vietnam transliterates their name as Pu Peo.

      The Pubiao, despite the gradual loss of their language, remains a remarkably cohesive group.  Even though their numbers are small, they have been able to preserve many unique features of their culture.  This internal cohesion has insulated them from many outside influences.
