Who are the Pubiao?  The Pubiao are one of the tiniest of Vietnam's official minorities. At the time of the 1989 census they numbered only 382 people in Vietnam, and there are probably only about 470 today. They live very close to Vietnam's northern border with China. Also, an estimated 307 Pubiao were living in China in 1990.  The Pubiao have not been recognized as a distinct group in China, but have been lumped under the huge Yi minority, more than 7 million people strong.

The pronunciation of their name is "Piu-bee-ow".  They are known by a number of other names.  Of these, Pu Peo is perhaps the most common, but they are also known as: Laqua, La Qua, Ka Beo, Pen Ti Lolo, Man Laqua, Ka Bao, Ka Blao, and Bendi Lolo.

They are a completely unreached people group (in both Vietnam and China).
