Women's Dress. The
traditional costume of the Tay women is beautiful in its classic
simplicity. Long indigo or blue dresses with long, close-fitting
sleeves are generally worn. These dresses are split at the sides, and
they wear indigo trousers under the dress. They wear a silk belt over
the dress, knotted at the back, with the ends hanging down. Women
usually wear their hair up, often braided. They usually wear a
scarf. In some areas, Tay women wear a short form of the gown,
like a long blouse, over indigo trousers. This blouse may be blue or
green, but the Phen group like to wear white blouses. The Pa Di girls
like to wear vests that are decorated at the front by beehive-shaped silver
buttons. |

Accessories.
Tay women like silver jewelry. Nearly all
wear earrings and necklaces. Some wear wrist and ankle
bracelets. They like brightly woven carrying bags. |

Men's Clothes. As
is often the case with tribal groups, the men's clothes are not
distinctive. They often wear clothing similiar to the Viet. When
they wear more traditional garb, it usually consists of a short tunic and
trousers, dyed indigo, similar to other, neighboring ethnic groups. |
